Schools

Our museums and galleries welcome group visits, and run a programme of activities for schools to accompany our exhibition programmes and compliment our unique collections. We facilitate class visits, run live digital workshops and develop free resources for schools.

Visit the museums on the Royal Mile

Teacher led trails are available for the museums on the Royal Mile: Writers' Museum, Museum of Childhood, Museum of Edinburgh and The People's Story Museum. For further information and resources packs, contact museumsandgalleries@edinburgh.gov.uk



Museum in a Box


We offer museum loan boxes free of charge to schools. The boxes feature original and replica objects that relate to our collections and exhibitions. They provide a hands-on opportunity for schools to explore Edinburgh’s past and present.

Boxes are free to borrow for up to two weeks. Please note we're unable to deliver, but boxes can be collected from the City Art Centre on Market Street between 10am-4pm 7 days a week. We require at least one week’s notice to book a box.
