
Archeology
Our archaeology team provides a key role in protecting Edinburgh’s historic environment by providing a range of services which includes:
- archaeological consultancy advice across The City of Edinburgh Council to outside agencies, developers and members of the public on issues arising from planning and development proposals
- forestry and land management projects and maritime development
- managing and maintaining the Council’s Historic Environment Record (HER)
- providing archaeological and heritage policy advice
- undertaking archaeological project management
- managing the Council's archaeological collections

If you think you have found something of archaeological significance in Edinburgh and the Lothians, you are obliged by law to report it to Treasure Trove.
The role of Treasure Trove is to ensure that objects of cultural significance from Scotland’s past are protected for the benefit of the nation and preserved in museums across the country.
