Membership

Friends of the City Art Centre and museums, continually help us to preserve and enhance our collections, our historical buildings and make it possible for us to share stories with around 500,000 people each year. Our Friends' help raise much needed funds towards the purchase of art works and artefacts, conservation, resources for children's activities and so much more.

Our membership programme began in 1973 and since then funds have contributed towards the purchase of many items, including:

  • works of art by Alexander Nasmyth, Henry Raeburn, William McCance and Victoria Crowe amongst many others
  • silver, porcelain and pewter with historical significance to Edinburgh
  • commissions such as commemorative pieces of engraved crystal
  • the acquisition of the Cramond Lioness, the Roman-era sculpture, now jointly owned by The City of Edinburgh Council and National Museums Scotland
  • funding for special publications about the city's collections

Members share an enthusiasm for Edinburgh's history and all aspects of Scottish art, take advantage of new exhibitions, a varied programme of special events, and build new friends and relationships. If this interests you, do join us and you can be sure of a warm welcome.
