Edinburgh Poverty Commission had planned to publish its final report and recommendations in April this year. At the outset of the Coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, the Commission announced a plan to pause that publication and instead publish an additional short report providing initial findings on the impact of the outbreak on poverty in Edinburgh, and reflections on responses needed to mitigate that impact.
This report (and summary) is now ready for publication and is based on a short programme of interviews with citizens and organisations carried out over the first five weeks of the lockdown, as well as relevant findings from the whole of the commission inquiry carried out to date.
Over the next few months the Commission now plan to return to its original purpose, and prepare a final report for publication in the Autumn.
A council statement made in response to these findings is available on the Council website.
